Between Provence and Dauphiné, Gap is on the Route Napoléon linking Grenoble to the Mediterranean.

The most unusual feature of the landscape is known as Les Demoiselles Coiffées (the hatted young ladies): in the middle of nowhere, an astonishing series of stone columns with a hat-shaped rock formation on the top of each !
