Visiting the Notre-Dame des Vignes chapel takes an additional 45 minutes. It is located about 750 meters from the village. You can take the path to the chapel through the vineyards.
For a complete visit including wine tastings, plan on spending a full day. The village produces a renowned AOC Côtes du Rhône Village wine. The cellars are generally open to visitors by appointment.
Hikers will want to extend their stay by half a day. Several trails lead from the village to the surrounding hills. The landscape alternates between vineyards and oak groves.

Where is the tourist office?
The Tourist Office is located on Place de la Coconnière in Visan. It's easy to find from the village center. The square is on Avenue du Général de Gaulle.
The reception is open Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. On Saturdays, the hours are from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and then from 1:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. The office is closed on Sundays.

The Tourist Office sells a few local products. You will find wine, olive oil, and truffles depending on the season. It is the ideal place to get personalized advice.
Where to park in Visan?
Parking is free in several places: Place de la Congrégation, Avenue du Général de Gaulle, Rue Bellevue. These car parks fill up quickly in high season. Arrive early in the morning to find a space easily.
Place de la Coconnière offers around 35 parking spaces. This central car park brings you closer to the old village. It's a five-minute walk to Rue des Nobles.
In summer and during events, parking can be difficult. All the car parks in Visan are shown on our map at the top of this page. Locate them before you set off to save time.
There is also free parking on Rue des Soustets, at the top of the village. It has a maximum of two to three spaces. It's a quiet, shaded spot.
The parking lot near the Notre-Dame des Vignes chapel is another good option. You will find it at the end of the chapel road. It has more spaces than the one in the center.
What sites are a must-see?
The Notre-Dame des Vignes chapel is one of the most beautiful Romanesque chapels in rural Vaucluse. Its choir features an exceptional set of gilded woodwork. A 13th-century polychrome statue of the Virgin and Child adorns the interior.
The Rue des Nobles is lined with 15th-century houses. These mansions bear witness to the papal period. Their restored facades reveal the skill of the craftsmen of the time.
The Saint Pierre church has a 15th-century portal and a bell tower from the late 16th century. Inside, you can admire several old paintings. The painting “La Vierge des sept douleurs” (The Virgin of Seven Sorrows) by Nicolas Mignard dates from 1659.
The ruins of the 12th-century castle dominate the village. Climb up to Place Humbert II to enjoy the panoramic view. The Dentelles de Montmirail and Mont Ventoux can be seen in the distance.
Two gates from the old ramparts remain: the 14th-century Puy Barret gate and the early 15th-century Saint Martin gate. They mark the historic entrances to the fortified village.
The cobbled street leading to the Martel gate is worth a detour. Its original stones create an authentic atmosphere. You will come across beautiful old doors as you stroll around.
How to get to Visan
By car, it takes about 51 minutes from the Avignon TGV station. Take the A7 then the D976 towards Valréas. The village is located 60 kilometers north of Avignon.
From Orange, follow the D976 north for 25 kilometers. The journey takes about 30 minutes. You will pass through the vineyards of the Enclave des Papes.
Without a car, take the train to Orange, then bus line 3. This journey takes about 2 hours and 40 minutes from Avignon. The bus drops you off at Place Jean Moulin in Visan.
The nearest airports are Marseille-Provence (100 km) and Avignon (60 km). Rent a car at the airport for more flexibility. Public transportation is limited in this rural area.
From Vaison-la-Romaine, it's a 20-minute drive on the D976. Richerenches is only 6 kilometers away. Valréas is just 9 kilometers to the north.
