THE PLEASURE OF MARKETS IN PROVENCE

During your vacation in Provence, don't miss the markets near your place of residence. Indeed, Provençal markets are great places to stroll and stock up on local produce in the scents of lavender, nougat and honey. The region's local producers get up early to bring you the best products from our beautiful Provence. You'll also find local crafts (hats, baskets, works of art...) and more traditional shops (general groceries, clothes...).

TRUFFLE MARKETS IN VAUCLUSE

During the truffle season, from November to around March, there are truffle markets in the Vaucluse where you can buy these precious mushrooms from local harvesters. It's a great opportunity to visit a beautiful Vaucluse village and stock up on this gourmet mushroom!

NIGHT MARKETS AND EVENING MARKETS IN VAUCLUSE

During the summer months, from April to October, many communes organize "evening markets" or "night markets". These are great places to shop, sample local produce and enjoy the beautiful Provencal evenings. Here are a few not-to-be-missed night markets in the Vaucluse:

  • the Avignon evening farmers' market: every Monday evening from April to mid-October, 5pm to 7:30pm, around the Carrée d'honneur Allées de l'Oulle.

  • Cavaillon producers' evening market: every Thursday evening from April to mid-October, 5pm to 7pm, Place du Clos.

  • La Motte d'Aigues night market: every Thursday evening from June to August (cancelled in case of bad weather) in the Parc Sosthène et Irma Reybaud.

  • Malemort du Comtat local produce and crafts market: every Thursday evening, 5pm to 8pm, from mid-June to mid-September, Place du Marché.

FLOWER MARKETS IN THE VAUCLUSE

Another fine Provence tradition is the flower market. There are several in the Vaucluse during the summer months. It's an opportunity to admire superb bouquets, make a gift for a friend and stroll through a superb flower market with its bewitching scents.

Here are a few of Provence's must-see flower markets in Vaucluse.

  • the Avignon flower market, held year-round on Saturday mornings on the Place des Carmes

  • Carpentras flower market, held every year at the end of April,

  • the Apt flower market, held every year in May, on the Cours Lauze de Perret.

FLEA MARKETS

Many tourists on vacation in Provence love to stroll and shop at flea markets. Here are a few flea markets in the Vaucluse that our team believes are well worth a visit:

  • the Jonquières flea market, near the train station, every Sunday of the year

  • the Avignon flea market, every Sunday, Place des Carmes

  • Carpentras flea market, every Sunday, Allées Jean Jaurès

SOME OF VAUCLUSE'S MUST-SEE MARKETS

Isle sur la Sorgue floating market

The floating market at Isle sur la Sorgue is a veritable institution. Created in the 1960s, inspired by traditions from Thailand, it takes place in summer (late June in 2023) on the famous Caisse d'Epargne lake. It's a beautiful sight not to be missed if you're in the area.

Carpentras market

Carpentras is an important town in the Vaucluse region, and its market, held every Friday morning in the streets of the town center, is well worth a visit. Local crafts, pottery, spices and lavender are all on offer. There's a free shuttle bus that takes you from the two free parking lots to the market, so you won't have any trouble finding parking, even in fine weather.

The Avignon market

The City of the Popes is also famous for its magnificent markets. The "downtown market" takes place every Saturday morning between Place des Carmes and Place Carnot. It's the meeting place for all the local producers of the Avignon region.

You'll also find a market in Les Halles in Avignon from Tuesday to Thursday.

Gordes market

Gordes is one of the most beautiful villages in the Luberon, and indeed in France, so a stroll through its Provencal market is a pleasure not to be missed during your vacation in Provence. The Gordes Provencal market takes place every Tuesday morning. In fine weather, they're packed with regional producers, and tourists love to stock up on local souvenirs. Along with the Lourmrin market (Friday mornings), it's our favorite Provencal market in the Luberon.

WHICH SUNDAY MORNING MARKET TO VISIT IN VAUCLUSE?

Wondering which Sunday morning market to visit in the Vaucluse? We recommend the pretty Provencal market in the Luberon village of Ansouis. It's a very friendly little market with excellent local producers, and it's a great opportunity to discover the superb little village of Ansouis, with its pretty little streets and medieval castle. You can also visit the charming villages of Lourmarin and Cucuron, very close to Ansouis.

The biggest market in Vaucluse is in Avignon, the capital of Vaucluse. It takes place every Saturday morning, and features many of the department's local producers. It's the ideal place to buy regional products and crafts, and to do your shopping in the idyllic setting of the superb city of Avignon.
