However, the abbey went through a period of decline in the 14th century, leading to the departure of the canons. In the 17th century, the abbey was taken over by Augustinians and Hieronymites, who brought the priory back to life. Despite the French Revolution and a number of historical setbacks, the Prémontrés succeeded in regaining possession of the abbey in the 20th century.

Visiting the abbey: practical information and address

Saint-Michel de Frigolet abbey is open every day. You can visit the two churches and the outside of the abbey on a self-guided tour. The inside of the monastery is only open to guided tours every Sunday at 3pm, except on public holidays. Prior booking is required for groups of more than 10 people.

To get there, leaving Avignon, take exit 24: Avignon-Sud Châteaurenard. Follow the D28 to Graveson, go through the village and continue on the D970, then turn left onto the D81: Route de l'Abbaye.
